Lovely Service
There are an estimated 40 million people living in slavery worldwide. At least 100,000 of these are in the UK alone, including in Surrey. As a school we support Justice & Care, an award-winning anti-slavery charity that is bringing freedom to those living in the grip of slavery and empowering them to rebuild their lives. We have given funds and donated Rescue Rucksacks that have gone directly to victims of slavery. This Christmas, we want to do more. Justice & Care supports victims like Helena*, who was trafficked to the UK into sexual exploitation. She was moved between brothels across numerous cities for nearly three years and forced to work without a break day after day. After being rescued by the police, one of Justice & Care's Victim Navigators assisted Helena into safe accommodation, helped her to access trauma-informed counselling and supported her to provide critical evidence to the police, which then led to other victims being rescued. Helena said: "You are the first person in a long time that has helped me believe something can be changed. Everyone before has lied to me and made me do something bad. I don’t want people to hurt me anymore.” Cranleigh School is raising £10,000 to support 10 survivors like Helena in the UK. This will allow Justice & Care Navigators to give life-changing support and bring their abusers to justice. Together, let's give the gift of freedom this Christmas. *name changed to protect identity.
