There are an estimated 40 million people living in slavery worldwide - at least 100,000 in the UK alone. Modern slavery is the fastest growing crime in the world. I refuse to stand by and do nothing, which is why I'm taking part in RideLondon 2022 in support of Justice & Care, an award-winning anti-slavery charity that is bringing freedom to those living in the grip of slavery and empowering them to rebuild their lives. Justice & Care support victims like Helena*, who was trafficked to the UK into sexual exploitation. She was moved between brothels across numerous cities for nearly three years and forced to work without a break day after day. After being rescued by the police, one of Justice & Care's Victim Navigators assisted Helena into safe accommodation, helped her to access trauma-informed counselling and supported her to provide critical evidence to the police, which then led to other victims being rescued. Helena said: "You are the first person in a long time that has helped me believe something can be changed." Everything you give will help the work of Justice & Care. Your contribution will help make a difference in their work in the UK, mainland Europe and Asia and will spur me on! Together, let's give the gift of freedom. *Name changed to protect identity.
